Message from the Friends of Mick Rigney.
Since Mick became ill last November, there has been a huge amount of well wishers and concerned friends, colleagues and neighbours in regular contact with family members asking if they could do something to help.
Things have settled somewhat now and Mick is making progress in his rehab – albeit he still faces many challenges ahead – not least of these challenges is his mobility. While obviously we are all hopeful that in time, Mick will make as near a full recovery as possible, for the moment he needs assistance on an ongoing basis.
Once Mick’s family gave their consent to allow us undertake some fundraising, we set up the ‘Friends of Mick Rigney’ group; this group will act as the steering committee of fundraising activity undertaken and is made up of Family members, close friends and work colleagues of Mick’s.
Our immediate aim is to try and raise funding in order to purchase a wheelchair accessible car so as to give the family some independence. Work is currently been completed on Mick’s family home to modify the house to suit Mick’s needs. There will also be further work required when hopefully Mick is in a position to return home in the longer term.
One of our main considerations in this are the ‘sensitivities’ surrounding this initiative. Mick is an extremely well liked and respected individual as are his family; we will at all times act with responsibility to uphold Mick’s standing and ensure his family are foremost in our minds in anything we do.
Therefore we would respectfully ask that any event being considered outside of what we have put in place is in agreement with the steering committee and Mick’s family.
